Intro to Ceramics (Mini) Series - 3 weeks, Thursdays starting August 7th
Dates: Thursdays: 8/7, 8/14 & 8/21
Time: 6-9 PM
Location: Bittersweet Studios, 1515 N Rosa Parks Way, Portland, OR 97217
This is an abbreviated version of our six week Intro series that concentrates on giving students the basics of ceramics wheel throwing and handbuilding without the time commitment of a 6 week course.
Week 1: Wheel Throwing Basics
Learn the fundamentals of working on the pottery wheel, including centering clay, pulling walls, and forming simple vessels. Keep up to two wheel thrown pieces that we will trim for you.Week 2: Handbuilding Techniques
Explore coil, slab, and pinch methods to build forms by hand—great for sculptural or functional pieces.Week 3: Glazing & Finishing
Apply underglaze and glaze to your bisqued pieces, experiment with surface decoration, and prepare your work for final firing. Students can fire up to 4 glazed pieces to keep.
Due to the sequential nature of this series, we cannot offer make-up classes. Please plan on attending every class session. For the duration of the class series, students have access to the studio during Open Studio Hours to work on their pieces.
Our Open Studio Hours are:
Thursdays 3-6 PM
Fridays 5-8 PM
Saturdays 2-5PM
Ages: 18+ only.
Cancellation/refund policy: Refunds are available with 10 days’ notice before the first class date. You can choose between store credit for the full amount, or a refund to your card, minus a $30 processing fee per student. No refunds will be given for less than 10 days’ notice.
